I went into Four Years quite unaware of what to expect beyond just a brief synopsis from the Ignatz Award page and a tweet from creator K Czap. But what I got was a really lovely, well-paced exploration of self growth and friendship through scenes all expertly weaved together with color and movement.

Previously on Comics: The McDuffie Diversity Award
Hello faithful readers! Kate here, yet again, to provide the news highlights from this past week in the comics industry, but there honestly does not seem to be a lot going on right now. NYCC was last weekend, and I know I’m still catching up on all the announcements and coverage. My go to places…
REVIEW: Fruiting Bodies Digs Deep into Botanical Horror
Fruiting Bodies is a graphic novella written and drawn by emerging indie artist Ashley Robin Franklin, whose soft and gentle art belies a haunting story about a world that is much stranger – and hungrier – than we like to acknowledge. Franklin’s previous work, That Full Moon Feeling (2021), is a fun and wholesome romcom…
Galaxy: The Prettiest Star Is Too Much Metaphor and Not Enough Representation
When DC announced their Pride line-up this year, I was once again disappointed by the trans representation. There were a few transfem superheroes in the DC Pride 2022 one-shot, but none in any of the new comics advertised. Kid Quick, the only nonbinary character spotlighted, is from an AU. For the second year in a…
WWACommendations: The Hunt, Elden Ring Fan Comics, Elvira and More
Hello and welcome back to WWACommendations! Originally created by the incredible Draven Katayama, this monthly round-up gives WWAC contributors a chance to shout out the comics they’re reading just for fun. Remember reading for fun? It’s something I’ve been trying to do more this year, and I’m very excited to bring back this series to…
Roundtable: Kate Beaton’s Ducks: Two Years in the Oil Sands
Here at WWAC, we’ve been fans of Kate Beaton for a long time, so we were especially excited for the publication of Ducks: Two Years in the Oil Sands, Beaton’s highly anticipated memoir of her time working in the isolated Alberta oil-mining camps. At over 400 pages of Beaton’s distinctive intimate and emotional style, Ducks…
REVIEW: All the Zines I Bought at This Year’s ECCC
My hopes for Emerald City Comic Con weren’t high this year. I was fresh off of working San Diego Comic Con for the first time and feeling underwhelmed with the artist alley areas. As it turns out, I’ve been spoiled by ECCC—of all the conventions I’ve been to, they have the most robust artist alley….
Previously On Comics: In Memoriam
Good morning, friends. This week has seen further losses to our community with the passing of Kim Jung Gi and Vincent Kukua. Kim Jung Gi, known for his incredibly intricate work and holding the Guiness World Record for longest drawing by an individual sadly passed away en route to NYCC. Flowers and messages have been left…
Catch These Hands! is a Sweet, Romantic Treat
If you were a Fruits Basket teen and felt that Arisa Uotani should’ve been queer, I’ve got good news for you! Catch These Hands! is here to grant your wish. Catch These Hands! finds Ayako Takebe, a former delinquent, lost in her adulthood. As a teen Takebe was one of the best fighters around, but…
PREVIEW: Hasbro’s Upcoming Marvel Legends From PulseCon 2022
I’ve only written about them a handful of times on the site, but the truth is, I love action figures. I’ve been collecting them for almost my whole life, starting with the 5″ X-Men line from the 90s, and continuing through Hasbro’s Marvel Legends to this day. So, when Hasbro’s PulseCon 2022 event kicked off this…
