Previously On Comics: Minted Memories of Missteps

Good morning! We had a fun weekend, didn’t we?

First, the Toronto Comic Arts Festival may not be located in the USA, but they’ve sure decided to embrace the spirit of Memorial Day weekend by making the…. memorable choice to invite NFT artist Pink Cat as a guest. This has naturally caused an uproar because NFTs are a scam. But that’s not the only reason! Shortly after the announcement, several comics creators pointed out both Pink Cat’s open antipathy to community art (in violation of the principles that TCAF is meant to stand for) as well as her shameless swiping of other media in creating her original works:

Seeing this kind of exploitation be promoted by a festival is pretty disheartening; all the more so when one considers this seat could’ve gone to a legitimate artist.

Speaking of disheartening, after the news that Seven Seas workers had voted to unionize, it appears that Seven Seas Entertainment has chosen not to voluntarily recognize that union. The union is not calling for a boycott at this time, and will be proceeding to an election with the NLRB.

We’ve seen a few changes at comics publishers in the past week:

That’s all I’ve got!
