Previously on Comics: Congratulations, Steve!

Previously, On Comics banner

Hello and welcome to another Monday morning, and happy Civic Holiday to my fellow Canadians. It’s your Friendly Neighbourhood Previously Editor with all the news, views, and what-have-yous from the world of entertainment.

Starting off with a delightful announcement. Friend of WWAC, Steve Morris, has joined the publishing division of Rebellion as marketing manager for the series 2000 AD and other graphic novels. Everyone at WWAC would like to congratulate Steve on his new role. Great going!

If you’re a fan of unseen gems finding the light, Patrick Macias, creator of the Hypersonic Music Club webcomic alongside artist MITSUME, shared that a heretofore unreleased Anime short film based on his work will now be released. The short was directed and written by the late Osamu Kobayashi. You can find more information on Macias’ blog.

Ever wondered what happens to all the merchandise when a collector dies? The collector’s family is often times left to decide what to do with all those figurines and statues, according to this New York Times piece. Note: this article is behind a paywall.

In annoying news, Arrow actor Stephen Amell made some dodgy-as-hell comments against the SAG-AFTRA strike, then tried to undo the damage by clarifying his comments, and guess what, he made it worse. Shazam! actor Zachary Levi has also taken it upon himself to speak against the strike. Not everyone agreed with striking, and that’s fine, but pick your moment, perhaps? I’m not linking to the articles—just Google it and torture yourself.

And for Canadians, Meta, parent company of Facebook and Instagram, and Google will no longer be sharing news on their outlets following the passing of the Online News Act in Canada. You can read a rundown of the events leading to this decision on The Globe and Mail.

As you can see, lots happening in the world. Please remember to stay hydrated in this ridiculous heat. Be kind to those who deserve it. Relax if you can. I’ll see you soon!
