Previously On Comics: Priorities

I don’t know how to do this today. I don’t know how to be anything but scared and angry anymore. I don’t know how, during a pandemic, where Black people are being forced to risk their lives in order to explain that their livers MATTER, on the three year anniversary of Grenfell, a few days off of Juneteenth, in a pride month where trans rights, rights that will no doubt hit BIPOC the hardest, are being rolled back around the world I’m supposed to write about what’s been happening in comics. But I suppose that’s what you came here for. So I’m going to make it quick, there is still so much work to be done.

Good Things

Women Write About Comics alumni and all round icon Ardo Omer has joined FOLD Kids Book Fest as their new Kids Coordinator.

In light of Joanne’s most recent transphobic twitter tirade and supporting essay, cartoonist Molly Ostertag offered to design cover ups of Harry Potter themed tattoos in exchange for donations to Trans Women of Color Collective.

Not So Good Things

Iconic Batman writer and editor Dennis “Denny” O’Neill passed away this week at the age of 81.

Cartoonist and editor Hazel Newlavent has shared an update regarding the ending of the ongoing defamation case brought against them and ten others.

And The Rest

In an attempt to pretend they care about Black people, Marvel Comics is offering readers an opportunity to read up on works by Black creators through its Marvel Unlimited service.
