WWAC is excited to reveal three of the creative teams and stories in the upcoming Perfect Crime Party anthology, published by Iron Circus Comics!
Launching on BackerKit, Perfect Crime Party is a full color 300+ page anthology containing 25 tales of criminal activity from over 40 creators as well as a cover by Jeff Smith (Bone). The book centers on one all-important question: What is the perfect crime?

Of course, everyone has a different answer, whether it’s robbery, revenge, or even (gasp!) murder. WWAC presents three very different stories from Perfect Crime Party, with exclusive commentary from the creators. They are all united by a common theme: women in history!
- Mariah McCourt: “Inspired by a trip to Edinburgh and a deep, lifelong, love of British murders mysteries, ‘Prym & Burn’ is an homage to Agatha Christie and a tale of sweet, bloody, vengeance. Perfect Crime Party has been an amazing opportunity to work with Kel McDonald at Iron Circus in a genre I’ve always wanted to tell a tale in, along with working with a great friend and artist, Jules Rivera, who brought the perfect blend of drama and fun to the story.”
- Jules Rivera: “This story allowed me to kill two dudes with one pen stroke. I am drunk with power. Special thanks to Mariah and the wonderful folks at Iron Circus comics for collaborating on this cozy mystery with me!”
– “Sincerely, A Lady” by Molly Muldoon & Caitlin Like – A new wardrobe reveals a history of sneaking, spying, and gossip.
- Caitlin Like: “I had the tremendous pleasure of collaborating with Molly Muldoon for our story ‘Sincerely, A Lady’ for Perfect Crime Party! We both share a deep and abiding love for historical fiction, and it was great fun to bridge a cozy mystery genre piece in both a modern and regency setting. So much of historical crime looking back from a modern perspective goes unsolved and we’ll never find out what really happened, and meditating on what might have happened when you’re removed by one hundred, two hundred, or even further back is a really appealing thought exercise, because you’ll never know the answer! We can think about what might have happened with the Princes in the Tower, for example, but we’ll never know the real answer. It was great fun to do a history unsolved mystery like that on a much smaller, lower stakes scale.”
- Molly Muldoon: “I’ve been into crime fiction for so long, I was voted ‘Most Likely to Write Murder Mysteries’ in high school. And they were right! There’s something delightful about a puzzle with consequences, which any perfect crime is. ‘Sincerely, A Lady’ puts a Bridgerton-y sheen on top of all that. Caitlin and I had a lot of fun playing with the scandalous misdeeds of regency society and what kind of agency a woman would have in it. Hopefully readers enjoy it, as well.”
– “By The Horns” by Malcolm Derikx & Brenna Baines – Teens in ancient Greece plan to save their favorite bull for a sacrificial altar.
- Malcolm Derikx: “Sword and Sandal meets Ocean’s Eleven in this ancient world crime caper! On the island of Crete, a young girl assembles a team of teenage criminals to infiltrate the Palace of Knossos. Their mission: steal a rare white bull, during the middle of the Minoan Bull Leap Festival.”
- Brenna Baines: “‘By the Horns'” is a lighthearted heist story starring a group of teens representing several Bronze Age cultures. In an Ocean’s Eleven style caper, they will attempt to steal an unexpected target: a temple’s sacred bull! Set on Minoan Crete thousands of years ago, it’s a colourful take on crime fiction.”
And that’s just the beginning. Stay tuned for a second exclusive preview of these three stories, coming soon to WWAC! And you can sign up to support Perfect Crime Party here on BackerKit!
