Good morning friends. There is quite a lot to get through today and some of it is sad and some of it is annoying and some of it just is, so let’s go.

This week we lost artist Michael Zulli. Zulli was best known for his work on The Puma Blues, Sandman, and the adaptation of Alice Cooper’s The Last Temptation.

Jennifer Lawrence is set to star in the movie adaptation of Paul B. Rainey’s 2023 graphic novel Why Don’t You Love Me? The movie will be produced by Lawrence’s production company Excellent Cadaver and will be distributed by A24.

As part of the Lakota Language Reclamation Project members of the Lakota nation and the original cast of Marvel’s The Avengers (2012) have come together to record a Lakota language dub of the movie. The Lakota dubbed version is now available on Disney+.

BOOM! Studios has been acquired by Penguin Random House and there are a lot of important discussions to be had about the way that big companies are gobbling up the media landscape and the effects this has on creativity AND PAY but I am fascinated by every report that focuses on the fact that they published Brzrkr. A book they would have you believe that Keanu Reeves created single handedly while Matt Kindt, Ron Garney, Clem Robins, and Bill Crabtree sat around providing moral support and snack plates. Keanu, I love you, please speak to your people about making sure your collaborators are credited. Everyone else, do better.

Macmillan has announced 23rd Street, a new comics imprint focused on adult graphic novels. The imprint will launch in autumn 2025 with books from Gene Luen Yang, Damon Wayans Jr., Saul Williams, and Ben Hatke. 23rd Street aims to publish 10–12 books a year to start, and will become home to First Second’s backlist collection of adult graphic novels.

In “what are you even doing, Etsy?” news. Etsy has announced it will continue to allow the sale of AI generated affronts to humanity however it has stated that it will no longer allow people to sell AI prompts. I would suggest that if you are the kind of person who would pay human money for an AI prompt that you in fact do not deserve to have money. Back to the point, there are some new regulations regarding the sale of AI slop, for example, products must be labeled as designed rather than handmade and that sellers must disclose within their listing description if an item is created with the use of AI.

That’s all for this week. Be good, yeah? And I’ll see you next time.
