Hi friends.
Some sad news this week with the loss of comics legend Keith Giffen. Known amongst other things, for co-creating Rocket Raccoon, Lobo, and Jaime Reyes, Giffen’s passing was announced via his Facebook with the following message,
“I told them I was sick…
Anything not to go to New York Comic Con
Thanx
Keith Giffen 1952-2023
Bwah ha ha ha ha”
Speaking of NYCC, Image Comics took the opportunity to announce a new imprint from Bryan Hitch, Jason Fabok, Peter J. Tomasi, Francis Manapul, Gary Frank, Maytal Zchut, Lamont Magee, Brad Meltzer, and Geoff Johns. Ghost Machine will be built around four interconnected universes and aims to “push beyond superheroes, introducing new genres, characters and shared universes”.
Beyond that, and in a fun example of a story that is positioned as heartwarming but is actually rage inducing – Robert Walker, owner of Comics, Toys, and Antiquities in West Memphis, Tennessee is donating all proceeds to pay for his granddaughter’s cancer treatment and help other patients at the St Jude Children’s Research hospital. That said, this is absolutely a good cause so if this is your local, maybe you don’t need to feel so bad about how much money you’re dropping.
Anyway, that’s all for this week. Be good and stay safe.
