Hello and welcome to another Monday. They sure are inescapable, eh? Anyway! It’s your Friendly Neighbourhood Previously Editor in the house with a round-up of what’s good, what’s bad, what’s downright terrifying in the world of entertainment.
Starting off with an intriguing opportunity for comics creators. Broken Frontier’s Small Press Day takes place on August 5th. This year, attendees will also get to sign up for Zoom sessions with Broken Frontier’s Editor-in-Chief, Andy Oliver. Read more details and sign up here.
In case you missed it, the Little Deer Comics shop in Dublin, Ireland unexpectedly flooded. If you can support them in any way, here are more details:
THE SHOP HAS FLOODED!
During the Life Drawing event so the shop will be closed ??? Until I update otherwise. It spread so fast and reached half the shop and has flooded underneath the shelves and everything. pic.twitter.com/NUBFpevL6I

Lest we forget, there are numerous strikes in progress as I write this. Teamsters and UPS have now agreed on a contract that will increase pay and benefits for Teamsters. This is a great move and I sincerely hope this will be the first of many improvements for workers in other fields.
The WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes are still on, though, but it doesn’t look like executives are ready to come to the table yet. Boo. But there’s still a ton of support for the strikers, including from the world of comics. 40 comics creators joined the WGA strike at NBCUniversal, a crossover that isn’t entirely unexpected considering how many major films and TV shows are based on comics, and how few of those comics creators ever see a dime of film and TV profits.
There are plenty of reasons to be angry at the world right now—the imbalance of power and money is too extreme, too debilitating. Try and take breaks from the relentless news cycle. If you can find moments of joy, hold on to them. Take care of yourself. Until next time.
