Previously On Comics: Don’t Be A Fucking Nazi

I literally do not know how to address the events of the last week. It would be disingenuous of me not to even mention that I along with a large portion of the world watched white supremacists attempt a coup in real time, live on tv. Or that I did it while on my second period of furlough during the UK’s third national lockdown in under a year because the government couldn’t organise a piss up in a brewery let alone a response to a pandemic. But it would be just as insincere to pretend I have anything useful or insightful to say about it either because really all I got is: shit sucks, look out for your community, and don’t be a fucking Nazi.

Oh, and here’s some news because I guess sometimes your community is a disparate collection of comic book fans, critics, and creators.

Rachelle Rosenburg, a colourist for the international multi-billion dollar comic book company Marvel has set up a Gofundme to help cover costs for her husband’s medical care as the aforementioned MULTI-BILLION DOLLAR company does not provide its freelance employees with health insurance.

Following updates from his family, it has been announced that DC Comics artist Steve Lightle has passed away as a result of COVID-related heart failure. Steve’s son Matthew has requested that any Patreon followers cancel their pledges as they begin taking care of his affairs. Our thoughts are with them at this difficult time.

DC Comics has removed the original graphic novel Zatanna: The Jewel of The Gravesend by Alys Arden and Jacqueline de Leon, which was expected to hit shelves in early April, from its release schedule and has informed retailers that it will be resolicited at a later date.

Arune Singh has joined Skybound Entertainment as Director of Brand, Editorial. I don’t know what that means but the acronym is DoBE and in times like this we must find joy wherever we can.

Bill Sienkiewicz reminded us all of the time he was visited by his local secret service agents for offering a free drawing to anyone who would shake Trump’s hand in the same way that Trump shakes the hands of other world leaders or perceived alpha males.

Twitter has, in an incredible display of too little too late, begun to purge itself of white supremacists including pro-trump cartoonist Ben Garrison but not before it allegedly sucked off 500 of his followers.
