Trailers! Trailers! Trailers!

Movies

Okay also after watching this trailer eighty times you could read director Jon Chu (Crazy Rich Asians) break it down. [Empire]

Oh yeah I guess this trailer dropped – Jason Reitman is taking the reins to his father’s franchise (Ivan Reitman directed the first two and serves as producer to this one). Ghostbusters: Afterlife is going to be a direct sequel to those first two films, focusing on Egon Spengler’s grandkids. [THR]

The Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Award nominees are in and I’m here to say the picks for best stunts are puzzling at best. Other notable snubs for me include Regina King (Watchman), Sandra Oh (though her Killing Eve costar Jodie Comer got a nod), people of color in the Comedy chatagories, and let’s be real, SuccessionWhen They See Us also only received one very deserved nomination for Jharrel Jerome, but it feels like it should be getting accolades hand over fist. [Variety]

The Golden Globe nominations have also been announced and there are also a couple of the same snubs there (Alfre Woodard? Regina!! King!!!) and also Randy Newman absolutely does not deserve a single award for his score on Marriage Story, this is the awards season hill I’m going to die on. [Variety]

Want to get mad? Vulture ranked every movie of the 2010s (kinda). [Vulture]

Disney’s Bob Iger wants to meet with Martin Scorsese because nothing ever fucking ends. His people are calling Marty’s people. [Comicbook.com]

But! If criticizing Marvel movies is the secret to getting one, then Bob Iger needs to have his people call Boots Riley. The Sorry to Bother You director and musician was unmoved by Joker and found the politics of The Dark Knight Rises to be lacking (same). He said, “these superhero movies are cop movies,” with a terrible understanding of class conflict. [IndieWire]

Shows

Greg Berlanti’s dominance of the small screen continues with his newly produced show Stargirl, which looks a couple steps up in terms of budget + production values than its peers. With Cloak & Dagger cancelled and Runaways on its last season, it’ll be nice to see another teen hero kicking butt. [Collider]

The reactions to the first installments of uber crossover Crisis on Infinite Earths are in and they’re…mixed! [io9]

Michael Chabon and his wife Ayelet Waldman’s deal with CBS TV Studios is starting strong with an adaptation of The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay for Showtime. Chabon will still be showrunning Star Trek: Picard but will probably also head the adaptation. [THR]

Speaking of stunt work, check this great profile of Watchmen stuntwoman Sadiqua Bynum. [LA Times]

Survivor contestant Dan Spilo has been ejected from the island after an off-camera “incident,” where he allegedly touched a female crew member. This removal, the first in the history of the show, follows several on-camera incidents and allegations of inappropriate behavior other contestants. CBS has a serious issue and this feels like yet another CBS production that failed to take action to protect their cast. [Reality Blurred, The Ringer]

Animation

MPC Studio, the VFX shop behind Disney’s CGI The Lion King (and one that assisted in the recent Sonic redesign), has shut down its Vancouver studio effective immediately, citing “external market pressures” in the city. It’s five other studios are remaining open, but the shutdown came abruptly, after an alleged extremely amount of crunch time for the VFX folks, including 17+ hour days. It’s unknown how many workers were laid off. [Cartoon Brew, CBC]

René Auberjonois, best known for his roles as Odo on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, and , has passed away. His DS9 cast mate Nana Visitor (Kira Nerys) penned a tribute. [Variety]

Carroll Spinney, reknowned puppeteer behind Big Bird, has also passed away. [Washington Post]

Timothée Chalamet shades ScarJo, saying he’d play a tree for Little Women director Greta Gerwig. [Vulture]

Slake your desire for a baby Yoda with these toys of The Child. I want the frog one. [HasbroPulse]
