Honestly I put the thing I’m most hype about first in this week’s column, but the whole thing is packed with news about The Batman, animation scandals, and a bonus Timothy Omundson.
Movies
??? Spike Lee will be directing an adaptation of Ron Wimberly’s seminal comic Prince of Cats. Lee will work with Wimberly and author Selwyn Seyfu Hinds on updating the script. Lakeith Stanfield, however, is no longer attached. [THR]
Patrick Wilson says that James Wan is “pushing it even further. Whatever that means.” for Aquaman 2, which he will return to once again as the villain Orm. [THR]
What Disney movies won’t you see on Disney+? Cryfest Coco, National Treasure, Solo, and The Last Jedi all haven’t made there way there yet, among others. [Hypable]
J-Lo says that “as an actor, [Batman] would be fun to explore” in this delightful interview between her and Robert Pattinson. [Variety]
Andy Serkis will be playing Alfred Pennyworth in Matt Reeves’ upcoming Batman film. [IGN]
Actor Jayme Lawson, fresh from Julliard, has also been cast in The Batman in an unnamed leading role, leading to speculation that she could be playing Barbara Gordon to Jeffrey Wright’s Commissioner Gordon. [Collider]
Mark Wahlberg, felon and the original actor tapped to play Drake, will now be playing Sully in the vaporware adaptation of Uncharted starring Tom Holland (as Drake). Travis Knight (Bumblebee) is still the director for now. [Variety]
Honored to have been brought in to lead the design on the new Movie Sonic. Working with Jeff and the modelers, riggers, texture/fur artists and animators in LA, London, and Vancouver was a thrill I'll never forget. #SonicMovie pic.twitter.com/HhcVIxAhXB

The new Sonic trailer is here and shows off a much cuter Sonic design, led by Sonic comic artist and animation director Tyson Hesse.
Austria’s submission for Best International Film at the Oscars has joined Nigeria’s in being disqualified for too much English-language dialogue. Written and directed by Sudabeh Mortezai, the film focuses on Nigerian sex workers in Vienna. [THR]

Netflix’s The Witcher, which debuts next month, has already got the green light for season 2. [The Wrap]
If you haven’t yet read this interview with jack-of-all-film-trades Werner Herzog (Invincible; Grizzly Man; My Son, My Son, What Have Ye Done?) ostensibly about The Mandalorian, I think you will probably like it. [THR]
If you need something to talk to your mom about, Lucas Black (Tokyo Drift) has left NCIS: New Orleans in a stunner of an episode, which honestly just renews my belief that he’ll be returning to the Fast & the Furious franchise extremely soon. [Newsweek]
Emmy-winning writer and meme-creator Jessica Gao has been tapped to write Disney+’s new She-Hulk series. Gao won the Emmy for the Pickle Rick episode of Rick and Morty. (Since Pearson just got cancelled my dream is to see Gina Torres in the green and purple, just FYI universe). [THR]
NBC has released the entire cast of longtime soap opera Days of Our Lives from their contract, which your aunties might also want to chat about. The show is going on infinite hiatus after the current season 55 wraps. [TMZ]
Animation
The audacity it takes to post this as if you’re the victim in this caricature ass exchange is astounding as Ryan Green one ups himself from his hatred of fanart to anyone who dares explain why maybe white men aren’t the worst off in society but hey he has a mixed baby so congrats pic.twitter.com/7CEVkQiuqH
— Andrew Minghee Kim (@akimillustrates) November 13, 2019
Prolific story artist and animator Ryan Green (Frozen II, Moana, Ralph Breaks the Internet, Zootopia) is getting his ass handed to him on Twitter after posting a comic about how tiring it is to be a white man in a woke world, up to and including giving himself kudos for making a “mixed baby” and making a “triggered” joke. While he’s of course free to feel how he feels, these are maybe the kind of struggles you don’t post on your professional Instagram, especially if you work in an industry where marginalized voices struggle to be heard.

As a sometimes cane-user myself, I always feel a little bit emotional seeing celebrities rock them on a red carpet.
