In 2018, Heart Research UK introduced the Anonymous heART Project to help the organization inspire and invest in pioneering medical research, training, and education to improve heart health among their communities. Sending out hundreds of A5 postcards to famous creatives such as Robert Smith, Keith Lemon, and Alan Titchmarsh, the project received a resounding response and a fabulous collection of artwork that was auctioned off to bidders who had no idea who had crafted each unique piece.

Last year’s event raised over £43k. This year, the Anonymous heART Project is back to touch hearts once again, with pieces available through online auction now through October 13. “We have sent out hundreds of postcards, receiving over 450 pieces of unique, personal artwork,” explains Heart Research UK’s PR & Media Officer, Dan Raymond. “It’s a similar amount to what we received last year which is very encouraging – it means that the artists that are contributing really are keen to help!” While bidders won’t know who created each particular piece until it is sold, all of the contributors and their works are available to view in the PDF catalogue.

“The response from artists and supporters has been overwhelming,” said Raymond, “It’s a campaign that our supporters, and the general public, really enjoyed.”

The charity is always looking for fun and unique ways to raise money to support their work. The Anonymous heART Project certainly meets this criteria and allows the participants to play a more creative part in the process. “The artistic community has been so generous,” said Raymond. “We have received requests and artwork from all over the world! The response from artists has been overwhelming, it’s been very touching hearing their stories about why they’ve got involved and looking through their artwork.”

To get a closer look at the artwork, drop by the Anonymous heART Exhibition on Wednesday, October 9 between noon and 4 p.m. at Northern Ballet in Leeds. Registration is free.
