Previously On Comics: Asking For The Check

Good morning! It was a relatively quiet one, as things go. Here’s some comics news.

Jillian Tamaki has won the Governor General’s Literary Award for her book They Say Blue. Because she’s fantastic, she’s donating $10,000 of her prize money to organizations promoting adult literacy and housing justice.

Our hearts go out to Duane Swierczynski, who lost his daughter Evie this week. Donations in her memory can be made to the Children’s Hospital of LA.

Instagram comickers and youtube personalities Husband and Husband got caught tracing art from one of the most popular Manga Kickstarters to ever exist. After being silent about it for hours in the face of some very big names, they canceled their Kickstarter before also being dropped by BOOM! Studios, where they were publishing an entirely unrelated project.

On the front of artistic gatekeeping, Irene Koh is saying what we all feel here. While anime and manga are still being devalued at the educational level, They’re joining parades elsewhere. Y’know, if you wanted a measure of cultural adoption.

Are you an artist who can turn work around quickly? If so, Sara Alfageeh is putting out a call!

That’s all I have for you! Go forth, read comics.
