All-ages queer content is important. Unfortunately, the queer community as a whole is severely underrepresented in the media, and queer kids and young adults are practically nonexistent. While it’s certainly a problem when adults don’t see themselves accurately represented in film, TV, and literature, this same deficiency can cause lasting damage to one’s sexual health and perpetuates attitudes of fear, distrust, and hatred towards the queer community.
The good news is that the folks behind Love in All Forms: The Big Book of Growing Up Queer are taking steps to amend that. This anthology collects comics from over a dozen queer artists about kids who are gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, genderqueer, intersex, asexual, and, of course, queer!
The comics range from fun adventures featuring queer characters to heartfelt stories of dealing with one’s sexuality. The goal is to show queer children “that they are not alone and that their stories deserve to be told.” Editor Serafina Dwyer also hopes that Love in All Forms will initiate healthy discussion of sexuality among families and peers.
My favorite thing about this Kickstarter is that there are two “Library Special” reward tiers. When you donate over USD$40 to the campaign, you receive multiple print copies of the anthology to donate to libraries in addition to the PDF. Other reward tiers include book charms and a personalized superhero cape!
Be a superhero and go back this amazing Kickstarter. Love in All Forms just passed the halfway mark to its goal of USD$8,000, and the campaign period ends on April 7!
