Amazon to Acquire comiXology

If you’re visiting the comiXology website today, you’ll see a “Message from the CEO” rotating on in the banner. After seven years of business, the message from David Steinberger announces that comiXology will become part of the Amazon family. The message also states that they will retain its identity as an Amazon subsidiary so they can continue working on their goal of “making every person on the planet a comics fan.”

According the Amazon’s press release, David Naggar, Amazon Vice President of Content Acquisition and Independent Publishing, says Amazon has “long admired the passion comiXology brings to changing the way we buy and read comics and graphic novels. We look forward to investing in the business, growing the team, and together, bringing comics and graphic novels to even more readers.”

The terms of the acquisition were not disclosed and the acquisition is expected to close in the second quarter of 2014.
