After a banger of a penultimate issue, X-Factor comes to a close on issue #10, sliding right under the wire for Pride Month. Unfortunately, the abruptly canceled book doesn’t manage to nail the ending, instead hastily wrapping up plotlines and leaving us with one helluva cliffhanger.
REVIEW: New Mutants #19: Paper Tigers
The New Mutants are at the Hellfire Gala, a little different than we’ve seen them before — new artists Alex Lins and Matt Milla have some big shoes to fill, and issue #19 really underscores just how much emotional heft Rod Reis’ work has brought to the series.

REVIEW: New Mutants #18: On a Precipice
There’s something looming ahead in the distance for the denizens of Krakoa, and it’s not just the Hellfire Gala — the Shadow King’s intentions hang over everything and remain unrevealed. This issue doesn’t bring us any closer to understanding his aims; instead, this issue continues to use the mutants as a metaphor of dysphoria, explicitly…

There’s a LOT of CW news this week, some trailers, a Christmas special, and more in this week’s overview of comics+ media.
REVIEW: New Mutants #17 is a Quest of Questions
New Mutants #17 continues to try to shed light on the anxieties and issues hidden in the new world of Krakoa, following Rahne, Dani and Xi’an, and the young mutants under the Shadow King’s tutelage in plot lines that are slowly beginning to intertwine. The month-long gap between #16 and #17 makes this issue feel…
Last Week’s Episode: That’s How You Get Ants
While I can only approximate where you, dear reader, are, where I am is finally light jacket weather and I am just so excited to be producing vitamin D again.
REVIEW: The #SnyderCut: Better, Different, Fine
The tale behind the Snyder Cut, or Zack Snyder’s Justice League, is long and complicated. There was the tragedy behind Zack Snyder leaving Justice League, the Joss Whedon reshoots, the mustache, the fan campaign to #RestoretheSnyderCut, the fan harassment. The news that Ray Fisher had allegedly been completely sidelined on the set of Justice League…
REVIEW: New Mutants #16 – A Crowded Room
The word of the arc is synergy, both in power sets and community. New Mutants has a broad cast of characters it follows: members of the titular New Mutants team, the younger generations of mutants who have been around for years but never allowed to age, and actual new-new mutants, like Cosmar (both newly powered…
ADVANCE REVIEW: America Chavez: Made in the USA #1
America Chavez is a lot of things: queer, Latina, a great puncher, a good friend, a caring partner. She’s been hailed as good representation and criticized for being bad reputation, been lauded as progressive and torn down as stereotypical. Basically, despite being a relatively young character — she was created by Joe Casey and Nick…
Last Week’s Episode: Tweety Mysteries
No real pithy intro this week because all I can think about is fuck Ted Cruz.
