Previously on Comics: Elektra Returns?

Previously, On Comics banner

Happy Monday morning, everyone. It’s your Friendly Neighbourhood Previously Editor! It’s been a weirdly quiet week which makes me suspicious.

There was some weirdness with the Hugo 2023 finalists being announced before the final list was ready. You can see the message about the incorrect list going out here. The real, actual Hugo 2023 finalists are listed on the Hugo official website. Honestly, this is just one of those things that happens with events. Hell, not so long ago, I was woken up on a Saturday morning because the IT person sent out a major announcement a whole week early, before any of the links were ready. That was not a good day on social media for me, let me tell ya that!

Some union news. The Animation Guild and Powerhouse Animation have announced that they’ve reached a “historic voluntary agreement”.

Marvel Entertainment is delaying the release of quite a few of their comics by a week, reported Popverse. It appears the reason for the delay has to do with printing and transport. Supply chains have been reeling since the start of the pandemic so it’s actually quite a feat that there haven’t been more regular delays in comic distribution.

In film news, apparently Jennifer Garner will return as Elektra in Deadpool 3? I thought Ryan Reynolds getting Hugh Jackman back as Wolverine was impressive but this is quite the coup. I don’t really know what this film is going to be about, but is anyone else getting multiverse vibes from it?

Also, if you haven’t signed up for the WWAC Patreon, you’re missing out on comics from our Artist in Residence, Masha Zhdanova, who is also WWAC’s Manga editor. Sign up for just CAD $2 for brilliant longform articles and Masha’s art.

That’s it from me this week. It’s a really hot week in some parts, after a scorcher of a week, so please keep hydrating, try and stay indoors, and get some rest. It’s going to be a long summer!
