Dawn of DC is upon us! With great fresh starts to books like Superman and Titans, it’s nice to see several franchises get a nice shot in the arm to boost them back up. The latest slew of announcements included Si Spurrier on The Flash, and actor Michael Dorn returning the character of Steel (who he voiced in Superman: The Animated Series) in Steelworks. But along with those announcements was the reveal that Wonder Woman is launching a new number one after issue 800. And after a couple of years of having women writers on the book surely the new creative team must have a woman writer for Wonder Woman #1. Right?
Wrong. Just like when they relaunched Supergirl recently, we’re getting Tom King on writing with Daniel Sampere on art. You know, “make Adam Strange do war crimes” Tom King. “Make Wally West murder his friends” Tom King. “Make Mister Miracle attempt suicide” Tom King. “Both sides-ing Rorschach” Tom King. “Make Superman vividly fantasize about all the ways his wife can die” Tom King. “Shamelessly rip off True Grit” Tom King. That Tom King.
Anyway, here’s the announcement for Wonder Woman #1.
After a mysterious Amazonian is accused of mass murder, the U.S. Congress passes The Amazon Safety Act, barring all Amazons from American soil. (Oh boy, I’m sure Tom “Former CIA Asset” King will provide a very nuanced take on this). To carry out its new law, the government sets up the Amazon Extradition Entity (AXE) (That acronym doesn’t even work Thomas) task force to remove those who don’t comply by any means necessary. In her search for the truth behind the killing, Wonder Woman now finds herself an outlaw in the world she once swore to protect. (Yay, just what I want from a Wonder Woman comic!!!!)
Couldn’t let women write the most iconic female superhero for long, after all, huh? At least it will look pretty.
