Good morning friends!
Another quiet week here in the news mines albeit one tinged with sadness as we report another loss in our community with the passing of Brian Augustyn on February 1st following a stroke. Augustyn worked as an editor for DC Comics for many years, most notably on The Flash, and gained further acclaim as a writer with Batman: Gotham by Gaslight.
In hiring news, this week saw Mike Pellerito named as editor-in-chief at Archie Comics. A 22-year veteran of the company, Pellerito is known for editing the 2015 Archie relaunch by Mark Waid, Fiona Staples, and Jughead by Chip Zdarsky, Erica Henderson, Derek Charm, and co.
As for the shady publishing company shaped elephant in the room, it has been made public that almost 40 comics creators have filed a lawsuit against Action Lab for failing to satisfy contractual obligations. In case you were looking for further context regarding Action Labs’ unseemly business practices, our very own Claire Napier reported on a number of allegations levelled against Action Lab back in September.
And just like that we’re done for another week. See you all in a bit!
