Good morning all. I am writing this a little bit earlier than I usually do because I need to pack up and get on the road to Wales. Sorry in advance if I miss something exciting.
There are some interesting opportunities for creators floating around this week which I think everyone who is both reading this and meets the criteria should take as a sign that they should apply. You gotta be in it to win it you know, and now is the time of miracles. All those Christmas movies wouldn’t lie to me.
The 2024 Comics Advocacy Group (CAG) mini grants are now open for applications. The CAG is an organisation dedicated to making careers in comics more accessible and sustainable and the mutual aid grants hope to relieve some of the financial burdens that prohibit people from working in comics. CAG will be accepting applications until January 15th 2025. Applications are open internationally to anyone who writes and/or draws comics.
Fieldmouse Press are currently open for submissions of shorter (16-56 pages) works until December 31st. They are looking for “challenging but delightful work in a variety of genres,” but as always, do check the guidance before you submit because your definition of challenging and delightful might not match up with theirs. Fieldmouse press is a nonprofit publisher committed to expanding the reach and appreciation of comic arts.
In movie news, the final installment in the animated Spider-Verse trilogy, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, has found its directors. Notably, both Bob Persichetti, and Justin K. Thompson have previously co-directed Spider-Verse movies with Persichetti working on Into the Spider-Verse, and Thompson on Across The Spider-Verse. I suppose that means it’s in good if not experienced hands.
Warner Brothers released the first trailer for Superman this week and y’know what? I’ll bite. Have a look (if you haven’t already) and see what you think.
