Good morning from your Friendly Neighbourhood Previously Editor. I’m here with a round-up of all the news from pop culture last week.

Starting off with some exciting news for my fellow research fans. The Lucy Shelton Caswell Research Award has been announced. The $2500 award is open to non-Ohio State graduate students, faculty and independent scholars, who need to travel to access the Billy Ireland Cartoon Library & Museum. Learn more about the award at the OSU website.

With the US elections merely two weeks away and no clear winner between fascism and democracy, comics creators have come together to create Stop Project 2025, a collection of comics to educate voters about how a Donald Trump win will make it possible for the dangerous Project 2025 to come into effect. Comics Beat has more details about the book and the creatives involved.

In music news, former One Direction member Liam Payne has died, reported Variety and confirmed by numerous news outlets. Payne leaves behind a complicated legacy. One Direction was a pop sensation that launched five teenagers into international stardom, something none of them seemed prepared for. But Payne has also been accused of abuse by former partners. Unfortunately, as many people mourn a childhood idol, numerous fans have taken to social media to harass Payne’s former partner. Sigh.

DC is making a host of their comics available on GlobalComix, reports Libreture. Read superhero comics like Batman, Catwoman, Wonder Woman, and The Flash, as well as Watchmen and Y: The Last Man. GlobalComix has more information on their site.

Speaking of DC, the comics giant made several announcements at New York Comic Con, including the return of the Vertigo imprint and a sequel to Batman: Hush, set 20 years after the original series. IGN has a round-up of all the news from the DC NYCC panel.

Hollywood Reporter shared the news that The Lot is getting a film adaptation. Akela Cooper, writer of hit horror film M3gan, will be writing and co-producing the four-issue series from Marguerite Bennet and Renato Guedes about a Black woman Hollywood studio executive fighting an occult horror.

Finally, news that Kiera Knightley is creating a children’s book has sparked discussion about celebrities overtaking the children’s writing space from authors. The Guardian reports on the pushback from authors.

That’s it for now. Fall is settling in now and that’s making me happy. The temperatures are being erratic where I live but this is my favourite season. I hope all of you are enjoying the cooler weather and beautiful fall colours. Until next time.
