Hello, hello, hello! How are we today?

This week we are offering congratulations across the board as the Eisner nominations were announced. There are 32 categories (including the previously missing best comics periodical/journalism) so I’m not going to tell you every single person/book/thing that’s been nominated but to summarize some of the big news, Kelly Thompson has been nominated in 5 categories – the highest number for any creator – including Best Continuing Series and Best Writer. Other creators who picked up multiple noms include Emily Carroll, Juana Guarnido, Bill Griffith and Tom Taylor who each have 3 nominations and a list too long for me to type out that features Becky Cloonan, Erica Henderson, Ryan North, Mariko and Jillian Tamaki have all been nominated twice. In terms of Publishers, Image Comics leads the way with 17 nominations with the big 2, DC and Marvel lagging behind with 13 and 5 nominations respectively. While we haven’t been able to cover everything that’s been nominated – there’s a lot, give a us break – we do have coverage of some of my faves, for example Tatsuki Fujimoto’s Goodbye, Eri, Shin’ichi Sakamoto’s #DRCL and E. M. Carroll’s A Guest in The House, and we’ll almost certainly have more to come.

In other congratulatory news, over at The Beat Deanna Destito was promoted to Managing Editor. Deanna has been with the site since 2018 and was formerly Deputy Managing Editor. Alongside Deanna, Rebecca Oliver Kaplan has been promoted to Deputy Managing Editor, and Humberto Saabedra has joined the team as their new Manga Editor.

That’s all for this week. Be good and I’ll see you next time.
