Previously, On Comics banner

Hey everyone! It’s your Friendly Neighbourhood Previously Editor ringing in 2024 with you. I hope you’ve had a good break (if you got one), spent some time with loved ones, or just did nothing but catch up on some reading.

Here’s some news from while we were away. First up, Laura Dean Keeps Breaking Up With Me is going to be adapted for film. The hugely popular graphic novel was written by Mariko Tamaki and illustrated by Rosemary Valero-O’Connell. Tommy Dorfman is set to direct with Tamaki writing the screenplay.

Speaking of adaptations, this next piece of news had a lot of WWAC-ers squealing. Murderbot is slated for a television adaptation by Apple TV+. Have we mentioned how much WWAC loves Martha Wells’ Murderbot Diaries? It’s a lot. Like a lot, a lot. Randomly, Alexander Skarsgård will be headlining the role of Murderbot. Considering Murderbot’s a robot, the casting is an interesting choice. Hmmm…

The Kinnard Award nominees are out! It’s the second year for the awards, named after the queer cartoonist Rupert Kinnard.

An award in its own way, The Beat announced its list of best new manga for 2023. Check out the full list here.

I doubt anyone missed this news, but Jonathan Majors was found guilty of assault. Disney and Marvel waited till the verdict to drop Majors from its slate of films and shows, instead of back when he was first charged, which is not a great look.
