Good morning!

Oh right, it’s Halloween. Pretend I said that in a Vincent Price imitation. Anyway, here’s the news!

James Gunn and Peter Safran are set to lead DC Studios going forward, according to THR. This is presumably in the wake of Gunn’s successful The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker, both of which were highlights for both DC films and HBOMax, and hopefully means a shot in the arm for DC films going forward.

There’s a Humble Bundle out right now for a bunch of back issues of Heavy Metal, and while that might normally seem very exciting, we can’t really recommend you pick it up. Apparently the company does not currently have rights to reprint older material, per contractual obligations with creators involved, per one of those creators, R. G. Llarena. It’s unclear what steps, if any, Heavy Metal is taking to rectify this issue.

In another story of creators getting screwed over, Webtoon is ending their Creator Rewards Program, founded in 2018 to supplement a new ads revenue program. Webtoon is clear that this program was always temporary, and indeed that it was extended past its original intended expiry date, but that doesn’t change the fact that it remains one of the most reliable ways for creators on Webtoon to get paid, which is a huge net loss to those creators during an already difficult economic scenario. It’s very disappointing news.

Those are the big news items from the last week. See you next month!
