Sugar Sugar of the Month

Behind her orange and red flames flare up and in the foreground a satanic brown leather tome sits

The term ‘powerfully spooky’ is easily applied to Chilling Adventures in Sorcery #1. An anthology comic featuring Madame Satan in a dry-eyed horror host role, it gives us glimpses of rather horrible things happening to our favorite characters in luridly delightful colors. My favorite segment featured Archie fighting for his life in an arcade while he works as a night watchman, which proves to be an utterly spooky mashup between Gremlins and Five Nights at Freddy’s. Also memorable was Matt Herms’ art in Jughead’s segment (Herms continues to draw my favorite version of Ol’ Juggie).  Inventive usage of art and color help make this one sing.

Archie Andrews, a redhaired white teenager, sits on a snowy rooftop. To his left is Betty cooper, a white blonde teenager with her hair done up in a ponytail. Archie's dog, vegas, a golden lab, sits beside her. Archie and Betty are done up in colorful sweaters and scarves and wear snow bots and jeans. The eves are decorated with christmas lights and wreathed in pine garlands. Archie and Betty excitedly watch as Santa Claus and his reindeer fly across a pale white moon. the navy colored night sky is filled with stars

This one is as cute as a speckled pup and a great way to open the holiday season.  In the featured story, Archie and Betty camp out together on the roof of Betty’s house in the hope of seeing Santa Claus in the flesh (Hey, it’s not as far-fetched as you’d think – Betty and Veronica are friends with his daughter in several different versions of the Archieverse continuity!).  Will they stay awake for long enough to see the jolliest fat man?

Hotdogs and Hotshots

Archie Andrews - a redheaded white teenager wearing a black letter vest with a white R on it, a white shirt and tan slacks, stands beside his friend white black-haired teenager Jughead Jones. to Archie's left is Melody of The Pussycats, a white haired white teenager wearing a red headband on her platinum-colored head and a red dress with a slit up the thigh. To Jughead's left is a black teenager named Valerie - also of the Pussycats. Valerie wears a leopard-print jumpsuit complete with ears and holds a tamborine. Jughead and Archie each hold up one large, red numeral - 8 in archie's case, 0 in Jughead's. There are red and blue stars over their heads, and the background is bright yellow

This is the final issue celebrating Archie Comics’ 80th anniversary. In it, Archie manages to cause a rift in the space-time continuum due to his own clumsiness when he accidentally interrupts his 1940s self’s first appearance in print. The 2020s and the 1940s collide and melt together and Archie must put it all right.

Picks From The Timecops

Betty Cooper, a blonde white teenager with her hair in a ponytail, walks beside white redhead archie andrews and brunette veronica lodge. Berry wears jeans and a pink winter jacket and hat with white earmuffs, Archie wears jeans and a green turtleneck sweater with an "R" emblem and green scarf, and veronica is dressed in a camel-colored beret and long coat with plum-colorred pants and a white sweater. They walk in a winter wonderland strung up with brightly colored lights and a snowman in the background

In a one-shot issue, Archie finds himself on a guided tour through his past, present, and future via a spirit, who presents itself to Archie when he cannot decide whether to take Veronica or Betty to the Snow Ball. Multiple artists and writers have come together to craft this panoramic tale, which is definitely one of my most hotly anticipated reads of the month.

a gaggle of teenagers have gathered in the white-floored, blue-walled living room of the lodge family estate. Veronica Lodge - a brunette thin white teenagere - kneels beside her father's chair and tells him that the gang has brought its own refreshments to save him money. He retorts that she needs to save his sanity

This long-running series spanned from the 1950s to the 1990s and it focused on the Archieverse’s supporting characters. This TR will collect stories from issues that span the decades of its run and will be a great introductory point for those who missed its heyday.

Betty Cooper, a blonde white teenager, wears a red santa costume with a spotted ermine collar and a red santa cap. Beside her is Veronica Lodge, a white brunette teenager wearing a green santa outfit and hat. She also sports red earrings. They smile into the camera and behind them the comic's title looms in a green box dripping with ornaments

Veronica finally goes full Clark Griswold and makes over Lodge Estate as a Christmas paradise for a party she and Betty are set to host. Unfortunately, a power outage threatens to take a little shine off of the proceedings.

Archie Andrews, redheaded white teenager, rides a glittering mirror ball in front of a white backdrop with confetti and multicolored balloons raining down. He wears a red sweater and blue jeans. In front of him stands blonde teenager betty cooper in a blue sweater and blue plaid skirt, her blond hair done up in a bow. Brunette teenager veronica lodge stands nearby in a gold dress with a pink cap. She holds a noisemaker, and at their feet is Archie's golden retriever Vegas. They're all shouting in a big word balloon 'happy new year!'

It’s time for some New Years’ stories! The whole gang masses together to create a record-breaking snowball on the high school grounds, but a sudden heatwave threatens their plans.

Archie Andrews, a redheaded white teenager, wears a yellow, red and black-striped hoodie and blue jeans. He's with his brunette, white teenage friend jughead jones, who's wearing a green sweater, red and black striped scarf and black pants. Their dogs - white, shaggy Hotdog and golden Vegas - are wearing antlers. They stand before a snowy field, it is nighttime, and santa claus flies before a full moon.
