Comics stuff happened last week! Here’s what you might have missed!

  • Madefire, digital comics app that launched in 2011 has quietly shut down, leaving many people without access to comics from publishers like BOOM!
  • Comics creatives are reaching out in support of cartoonist Patrick Dean, who was diagnosed with ALS and now requires in-patient hospice care. You can help by supporting his GoFundMe, which is run by Eleanor Davis and Melissa McBride.
  • The 2021 Ringo Awards jury has been announced.

  • Our very own Jazmine Joyner joins IDW Publishing as their new Associate Editor!
  • If you’re gonna draw Black people, it helps to, you know, look at Black people for reference.

  • The LA Times has interviewed several Black comics creatives about their reinvention of comics, addressing the racist history of many of our favourite characters, and plans for what comics can be for everyone.
  • Montreal’s Horizon Comics is suing Marvel Comics over Iron Man designs that were allegedly stolen from their comic, Radix.

That’s it for the moment. Enjoy your Monday and let’s see what this week has to offer!
