As announced last fall at New York City Comic Con, Marvel’s Iron Man 2020 event begins this month with Iron Man 2020 #1 starring Arno Stark. The event will feature several spin-off titles, including Ironheart 2020.

Ironheart, aka Riri Williams, debuted in Brian Michael Bendis and Mike Deodato Jr.’s Invincible Iron Man #9 (2015), and got her own solo series in November 2018, written by Eve Ewing. Now, Riri returns in a two-issue story written by Vita Ayala and Danny Lore, with art by David Messina, and cover art by Cover by Skan.

“Being able to write a character that I have loved is an incredible feeling,” says Ayala. “Riri is such a beautiful, complex, funny and intelligent kid, and honestly I was afraid I wouldn’t do her justice! Luckily I had a partner writing this one, who understands and loves the character as much as I do.”

“Riri Williams is the sort of character that made an immediate impression — on me and the world at large,” adds Lore “As a writer who also gets to work in comics retail, I’ve seen young girls light up to see someone like them in the iron suit. Being able to add to that canon is beyond amazing! And to top it off — I get to tell this story with my best friend and favorite writing partner! We jumped at the opportunity to be part of 2020, and can’t wait to show you what we have in store!”

The Robot Revolution is in full swing, as is the Arno Stark–funded crackdown on artificial intelligence. That means that Riri Williams and N.A.T.A.L.I.E., the A.I. based on Riri’s deceased best friend, are in for a world of trouble. Can they weather the coming storm together, or will 2020 tear them apart?

Ironheart 2020 #1 will be available in April 2020, with the second issue following in June.
