This past weekend was San Diego Comic Con, which had quite the contingent of WWAC folks in attendance, but not me! So here’s a mix of the stuff I found most interesting and, of course, non-SDCC news, as though the world continued outside of the convention center.

Comic TV

Marvel’s longest running live-action show, Agent’s of SHIELD, will end with the upcoming seventh season. [Deadline]

Black Lightning‘s Cress Williams says it’s very possible that their heroes could cross over into the Arrow-verse, but there’s nothing on the slate yet. [io9]

Comic Movies

Marvel released some plot and casting details on The Eternals at Hall H this weekend. Joining Angelina Jolie are Salma Hayek, Richard Madden, Brian Tyree Henry, Kumail Nanjiani, Lauren Ridloff, and Don Lee will all be starring in Chloé Zhao’s film. [Variety]

Mahershala Ali (Moonlight, Luke Cage) was announced as the new Blade, Simu Liu (Kim’s Convenience) as Shang-Chi, and Teyonah Parris (Dear White People, Mad Men, Chi-Raq) as Monica Rambeau (who will be appearing in WandaVision)! Lots of Marvel movie news was announced in their surprise Hall H panel. [Nerdist]

Ali apparently took his Oscars called up MCU godhead Kevin Feige the wanted to play Blade, which is an extremely powerful flex. Plus, did you see him in Battle Angel? Practically an audition. [THR]

Director Catherine Hardwicke (Twilight, Lords of Dogtown, Miss Bala) is set to direct a gay viking adventure movie based on Natasha Alterici’s Heathen. [Variety]

Animation

In truly serious and troubling news, at least 34 people were killed in a suspected arson at a Kyoto Animation Co. studio. KyAni was known for being a good workplace for women in the industry, and was behind series like Free!, K-On!, and Violet Evergarden.  [NYTs]

Lego DC: Batman: Family Matters premiered at SDCC this weekend (the greater DCU wasn’t quite as well-represented, as Warner Bros. skipped out this year). [SyFy]

DC also announced an animated version of Superman: Red Son (Mark Millar, Dave Johnson and Killian Plunkett) along with other animated projects. [DC]

Grab Bag

This might just be trash talk but Orlando Bloom during an ‘activation’ for his new show Carnival Row, San Diego mayor Kevin Faulconer left in a hurry because the character he selected to play was a “mythological” immigrant. The mayor’s office denies it. [CBR]

Janelle Monáe will take on Julia Roberts’ role in Homecoming [Shadow & Act]

Celebrated Dutch actor Rutger Hauer (Blade Runner, Sin City) passed away Friday. [People]
