Welcome to the Dynamite Comics Pubwatch for the month of March! I’m Lisa, Dynamite is my explosive beat, and here’s this month’s news!

Archie Comics/Dynamite Crossover Incoming!

A mock-poster for "Red Songa & Vampirella meet Betty & Veronica", featuring all four standing and looking down at the viewer in a parody of horror/exploitation films

Have you ever wondered how Veronica Lodge and Betty Cooper might deal with Red Sonja and Vampirella? Well, you’re about to find out this May when Amy Chu (writing) and Maria Laura Sanapo (art) bring us “Red Sonja and Vampirella Meet Betty and Veronica.”

According to Chu, what’ll bring these four disparate women together will be simple: a supernatural murder spree at Riverdale High that’ll make all four rivals enter into a partnership. According to Dynamite’s press release there will be six covers for the first issue, and Dynamite will also be distributing four pins based on our heroines and featuring Francesco Francavilla’s cover art from issue one. Those limited edition pins will be released as single issues as well as in a discounted four pack.

Cosplayers and Dynamite Unite to Create A New Kickstarter

Dynamite has teamed up with various cosplayers and their myriad cover artists to create a new kickstarter for a trading card set: the Cosplay Women of Dynamite Premium Sketch Card Collection. The set will feature one of a kind sketch cards, original photography cards and all centered around the various cosplayers who’ve graced the covers of their comics. Each pack will include two Base Cards, two Sketch Cards, one black and white art card, one puzzle card, and one autographed card, and are up for $75 each on Kickstarter.

Big Blast of The Month:

Cover art for The Six Million Dollar Man #1 - Francesco Francavilla, Denis Medri, Yasmine Putri, Michael Walsh; Writer: Christopher Hastings; Art: David Hahn - A woman colored in cool blues aims a gun, while behind her a man in shades of red pushed open a door

Dynamite is in its element in this series—it’s a reboot of a ’70s-era tv property, it’s a sci-fi action buttkicker, and it’s got a retro-futurism feeling. This new series transfers Steve Austin to Japan, where his six million dollar body begins to break down just as he embarks on a mission with Niko Abe. David Han’s art carries the book beautifully,

Bangs and Fizzles:

Cover art for Barbarella/Dejah Thoris #4 - Art: German Garcia; Covers: Laura Braga, German Garcia, Zach Hsieh, Julius Ohta; Writer: Leah Williams - Dejah and Barbarella float in space, holding hands, eyes closed

Our own Wendy Browne said it best earlier in the month; this crossover is the best thing to happen to either character in a very long time, allowing them to show off their brain as well as their bodies.

Bettie Page #5

David Avallone (writer); Scott Chantler, Julius Ohta, John Royle, David Williams (covers); Julius Ohta (art)
