Thursday Book Beat: Life Lessons From Anne of Green Gables, Gilmore Girl Withdrawals and New GRRM?

Hi book lovers hope your week has been filled with holiday cheer no matter what you celebrate and good vibes whether you celebrate or not! I am compiling a list of books I must read over my winter break, including Swing Time by Zadie Smith and the novel the movie Arrival was based on, Story of Your Life by Ted Chiang (if the book is better than the movie which it usually is, it’s bound to be great).

Last week I spoke about Rachel McAdams voicing the Anne for the audiobook recordings of Anne of Green Gables. Wednesday marked L.M Montogomery’s birthday and we remember and thank her for her beloved children’s series. Anne was fierce willed and to honour her character Bustle came out with an article that showcases how she taught us early on to be strong women.

In British book news, J.K Rowling’s Cursed Child lost to The Essex Serpent for the Waterstones (a popular British book retailer) book of the year. The author Sarah Penny’s book is about a widow who moves with her autistic son to a new town to find a mythological serpent is attacking locals. Last year’s winner saw a 5,000% increase in sales! Honestly I struggled to get through the last chapters of Cursed Child so I’m not surprised at all. Sorry J.K maybe next time? Wait no please not a next time, let us love you nostalgically. You can read more about the book and the award here,

Emily Ratajkowski, famous model and actress took to Twitter Wednesday night to speak out against the recent book Leder/Ratajkowski which features images of her that she states she did not give permission to use. Emily has long spoken out about feminist issues, gone toe to toe with twitter troll Piers Morgan and says the book is a violation of what she stands for. I’m sure we will hear more on this soon.

It feels like I’ve been waiting decades for Winds of Winter and it seems George R.R Martin may have actually committed to a deadline. Let’s just remember that the last book came out in 2011! I was still in high school then! Especially since the tv show has caught up with the storylines of the book and surpassed them, loyal book series lovers are frustrated. Martin recently updated his live journal to announce that his public appearances would be cut back so that he could concentrate on finishing the penultimate book by the end of 2017. Then again, you never really know with him.

If you’re suffering from Gilmore Girls withdrawal like me and you’re stunned and don’t know what to do with yourself after that ending here is a list of books recommended to keep up that mother-daughter family drama vibe.

Happy Thursday!
