The festive season is a strange time. It can be happy and full of joy, or it can be tough, triggering, and full of tricky situations that are no fun at all. For me, it’s a mixture of both, but ever since I was a child I’ve adored the run up to the holidays, and they still never fail to excite me, even now!

One of the things I enjoy most about this season is decorating! Though it can be an expensive and daunting task, I’ve always been more of a DIY sort of girl, so I’m here to help you with some Crafty Comics Creations! You should be able to make these decorations with stuff that’s hanging around your house or with a quick trip to the thrift store.

These DIY decorations are a fun activity to do with friends, family or loved ones and are also a way of enjoying your favourite characters and making them a part of your festive season!

For these crafty comics creations you’ll need:

A needle and thread, a roll of normal scotch tape, a roll of packing tape, a pair of scissors, some old comics, and any of your fave action figures/toys.

When it comes to finding old comics, we used the ones that we had laying around the house, but it’s really easy to visit your local thrift store and find some or even pop into your local comic shop and root around in their bargain bin.

First off, we’re gunna make these super cool:

Step One

Grab your comics and go through them until you find some great characters that you love or who you just love the look of. You can also look for comics covers and advertisements. Anything that you will enjoy looking at for the duration of the festive period.

Step Two

Cut out your favourite characters, covers, and cool finds from your comics.

Step Three

Lay your chosen cut out on a flat surface (A VHS or DVD works very well for this) and slowly tape over the cut out whilst pushing out any air bubbles as you go. Then flip the piece over and repeat on the other side.

Step Four

Cut around your taped decorations until they’re a shape that you’re happy with.

Step Five

Thread your needle and poke a hole through the top of your decoration, pull your needle through, and tie a knot at the top of the loop. Ta da! YOUR VERY OWN COOL CRAFTY COMICS DECORATIONS!

Step Six

Hang your decorations on your tree.

Step Seven

Add some of your own favourite action figures/toys to really complete the comics Christmas vibe.

Next, we’ll be making Craft Comics Paper Links, these classic DIY decorations work really well with any comics and are a fun activity as well as a nice addition to your festive decor!

Crafty Comics Paper Links

Step One

This first step is a simple and (I find) very relaxing one, you simply need to select your comic pages, and then cut them into strips! You can measure them out, but I’m more of a just go for it kind of gal, and I find that if you aim to make each one around an inch, then you should get around 5/6 strips out of each page. You can chose how many links you want to create depending on how large your room is.

Step Two

Grab a strip of your comic, wrap it around until the ends meet and tape it to create a loop.

Step Three

Grab another one of your strips, put it through your first loop and tape to create your first link.

Step Four

Repeat these steps until you have all the super cool paper links you could need.

Step Five

Hang these rad decorations in your home!

I hope that these little DIY decorations bring you some joy this festive season. Happy Holidays!
