Supergirl is Up, Up, and Away on the CW

Last night saw the Season 2 premiere of Supergirl, now on the CW. And while no one expected the sophomore season on a smaller network to match the show’s numbers during its tenure on CBS, the fact is Supergirl blew us all away, delivering the most-watched show during its time period for the CW in nearly eight years.

3.02 million viewers tuned in last night to catch the Girl of Steel and her Super Crew, and they weren’t disappointed: after a summer of speculation about Superman’s role in the coming season, whether Callista Flockhart would be back to reprise her role as Kara’s ice-cold (but secretly supportive) boss Cat Grant, and the four-way crossover between Supergirl and the CW’s stable of superhero shows The Flash, Arrow, and Legends of Tomorrow, the CW delivered a strong premiere that left most fans satisfied that Kara and friends are in good hands.

The transition wasn’t seamless: the DEO has some new digs, Cat Grant will shift to recurring character status to accommodate the Los Angeles-based Flockhart, and there’s some juicy conflict brewing between Supes (winningly played by Tyler Hoechlin) and Director Hank Henshaw/J’onn J’onnz (David Harewood), but overall, it looks like Supergirl has taken the CW over in a single bound.

Supergirl returns Monday, October 17th, at 8pm ET/PT on the CW.
