Kadokawa to launch English-language version of their online bookstore

Japanese company Kadokawa will be launching an English-language version of BookWalker, their online ebook store, this fall. One of Japan’s largest publishing and entertainment companies, Kadokawa will be adding 700+ manga and light novel titles to the etailer in October. Fans will likely recognize some of these titles, which include Sword Art Online, Neon Genesis Evangelion, and Durarara!! We already know that some titles will be exclusive to BookWalker only, but will the English version feature the other perks too? The Japanese version of BookWalker also occasionally offers its members special extras like free manga and limited edition booklets and illustrations. Guess we’ll find out soon!

With the success of previous Kickstarters for some of Ozamu Tezuka’s previous work, Digital Media has announced a new campaign to retranslate and release science-fiction manga Wonder 3. The manga will be published in hardcover for the first time, for a total of three volumes about an alien species who comes to observe humanity and learn about them.

June Manga and SuBLime bring more boys love titles to North America

YaoiCon was held last weekend in San Francisco and you know what that means: new licenses! Digital Manga Publishing’s BL imprint, June Manga, announced a whopping 24 new manga titles for digital release. Despite their request for 100% uncensored content, these releases will be slightly censored like the original Japanese versions. That usually means strategically placed white glowing cones of light, blurs, and black bars. Sorry, BL fans. VIZ Media’s SuBLime imprint, on the other hand, licensed a more modest 3 titles.

Soul Eater author launches new series

Enen no Shouboutai, or Fire Brigade of Flames, launches this month with the first issue in Weekly Shounen Magazine. The science-fiction manga focuses on a group of firefighters coming face to face with spontaneous human combustion. It will be Atsushi Okubo’s first new manga since the conclusion of Soul Eater Not! in November 2014.

British Museum features new Japanese manga exhibition

Hikaru Nakamura, Tetsuya Chiba, and Yukino Hoshinobu are the newest additions to the British Museum’s Asahi Shimbun Display, which has featured the growth and appeal of manga as an art form over the decades. The Museum has chosen to highlight Chiba’s “Fair Isle Lighthouse Keepers Golf Course, Scotland” and Nakamura’s “Saint Oniisan,” along with a three-dimensional portrait of Hoshinobu’s Rainman.
