This past Saturday the webcomic, Peritale, by Mariana S. Costa (Super Mahou, The Well On The House By The Hill) published the prologue of the new series. I’ve mentioned briefly before that webcomics aren’t necessarily my preferred way to read comics, but something about this one caught my attention.
Why?
Because it’s about a fairy.
A little know fact about me. I love fairy stories. The fairies in Disney’s Sleeping Beauty? My favourite characters. Julie Kagawa’s Iron Fey series? One of the first Young Adult series I became a rabid fan of. I don’t know what it is — maybe a mix of the magic and the hijinks? And there just isn’t enough Fairy-centric fiction (in any medium) out there.
The synopsis assures us that Peritale isn’t your average fairytale. To start with the fairy, named Periwinkle, is the protagonist. The comic will follow her as she tries to “complete a fairytale” in order to win the respect of her peers.
The prologue, however, doesn’t tell us much else about the characters and the plot, but it does give an idea as to what readers can expect. It starts with some children asking for a story. They want a story with fairies, with knights and witches and dragons. These sound like my kind of kids. And thankfully, our narrator thinks she has just the story for them (and incidentally for me). And if the promise of fairies alone isn’t enough, the art looks absolutely charming. It’s fun and energetic, with bright colours.
Peritale will be updating every Saturday. It’s one to keep an eye on. (And in the meantime follow Mariana on tumblr and Twitter.)
A link to the actual webcomic would be nice, if you’re going to write a whole article about it and all.
Thanks so much for your help
