REVIEW: VenCo by Cherie Dimaline

October 10, 2023

When I was younger, one of my favourite movies was Practical Magic, starring Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock. I loved the magic, the comedy, the sense of female camaraderie. Reading VenCo, the latest from best-selling author Cherie Dimaline, had all of the same vibes I used to enjoy from that ...

September 29, 2020

Happy Fall everyone! Though the weather this summer has been absolutely gorgeous, I have to admit I’m a little excited about the fall too. The leaves are just starting to turn here and walks in our neighbourhood have become so pretty. There’s also the return of the fall Starbucks ...

BOOM Pubwatch: August 2020

August 25, 2020

Welcome to this month’s BOOM! Pubwatch, where I’ll be gushing about Wonder Pony, a new middle-grade comic that I loved, as well as the start of Seven Secrets #1, and the graphic memoir, Happiness Will Follow, which I have some mixed feelings about. In the news section there is some celebrating ...

BOOM Pubwatch: March 2020

March 19, 2020

At the start of this month, I was on vacation. Sitting poolside with a stack of reading material. I definitely wasn’t expecting that a week later I would be preparing to work from home and self-isolate. I was forced to stay at home for a few months last winter, and the memory of that ...

BOOM Pubwatch: February 2020

February 18, 2020

This month I really tried to spend some time catching up on a few series. There are so many great BOOM! comics out right now it’s easy to fall behind when I’m doing my reading for this Pubwatch. In particular, I spent a little extra time catching up on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, ...

BOOM Pubwatch: January 2020

January 21, 2020

We did it! We survived 2019! It’s felt like a particularly long year last year, especially since I spent the majority of it recovering from my ankle injury. I’m not taking any chances this year! I’m planning on staying inside as much as possible and attempting to put a dent in ...
