The DC Daily Planet: Avoid Black Cats

My First Book of Girl Power Julie Merberg DC Comics Downtown Bookworks 2014

…or don’t. I own one, and thus far he hasn’t brought me any especially bad luck, even on Fridays the 13th.

Most of the DC news this week has been more speculation than anything else: everyone’s talking about the post-CONVERGENCE breakaway from the New 52, but there are a few other items of note…

For example, action figures! Everybody loves action figures, and DC is pumping out a new set, starting in November, to “showcase its classic stores and characters.”

Atomic action figure, DC Comics, 2015-16
Gotta have that iconic Atomica.

Cool! Except there won’t be any figures of female heroes or villains until the third wave, sometime next February and March. Bummer.

In case action figures aren’t your style, you could always pick up some collectible cards: like these Cryptozoic DC Super-Villains Trading Cards. Sweet!

Of course, some of you might want to get in on a little of that sweet, sweet DC swag cash cow action with a little swag of your own. My advice to you? Don’t. Especially don’t sell imitation Bat-mobiles, because DC will sue the pants off you. (Or whatever you’re wearing.)

This isn’t new, but it’s disappointing nonetheless: Paul Smith recalls how he left DC over a dispute regarding Wonder Woman’s cleavage. As in, DC wanted too much of it. Ugh.

Happy Galentine’s Day, crusaders! I hope you’re spending it surrounded by pals and chocolate.
