This week, the Strong Female Protagonist (SFP) Kickstarter has hit the ground running. An existing webcomic updated twice weekly for the past two years, creators Molly Ostertag and Brennan Lee Mulligan aim to publish the first four chapters as a graphic novel.

According to their video, SFP is about a 20 year old former superhero who has given up crime-fighting and gone back to college to learn how to fight the bigger issues, such as inequality and social injustice. Molly and Brennan, wanting to take back the term they feel has been misappropriated, created Alison Greena “strong female protagonist” who is strong in every sense of the word.

Backer rewards range from a PDF of the book at the $10 level to dinner with Molly and Brennan at the $600 level (as long as you can get yourself to New York City), along with all the usual prints, buttons, and paraphernalia in between. One of my favorites is the Rosie the Riveter style “I can do it” t-shirt included at the $75 level.

If you’re low on cash, both Molly and Brennan want you to know the webcomic is available free online and they appreciate any way you help spread the word, so show your support for this strong female protagonist the best way you can.
