Charlize Theron Cast as Super Spy Lead in The Coldest City Adaptation Fresh off her performance as a kickass warrior in Mad Max: Fury Road, Charlize Theron will be taking on the spy genre as an operative going into 1989 Berlin in an adaptation of The Coldest City by Antony Johnston and Sam Hart. The graphic novel, published in 2012 by Oni Press, explores the last days before the Berlin Wall falls as spy Lorraine Broughton goes undercover in Soviet-controlled Berlin to recover a list of undercover agents before it falls into enemy hands. The movie is slated to arrive in theaters in 2017.
Fifth Beatle: The Brian Epstein Story Film Adaptation Kicks Off with Simon Cowell As Co-Producer The graphic novel about Brian Epstein, manager of the Beatles, won oodles of Eisners and critical acclaim when it first hit the comics market in 2013. Writer Vivek J. Tiwary and artists Andrew C. Robinson and Kyle Baker tackled the story of Epstein, who was integral to the early success of the Beatles and whose inner struggles with homosexuality and depression lead to taking his own life at the height of the Beatles’ success. No surprise this is making the leap to the big screen, and I anticipate this one might get Oscar hype for whomever is eventually cast in the title role.
Summer 2015 Image Expo Announced for July The summer press blitz starts early again this year, as Image will be doing its summer Expo on July 2nd, just a few weeks before San Diego Comic Con. It’s a smart business move that’s worked for Image in the past, because it avoids the new series announcements getting lost in the wave of SDCC media news. Expect to hear more about Brian K. Vaughn’s upcoming series at this one.
