Finding love is often complicated. Kate Carrington is ready to settle down except she hasn’t had any luck finding someone to settle down with. One night, she crosses paths with an attractive, successful doctor named Adam Ortíz. Oh and Adam happens to be a trans-man.
In the Seeing Him Kickstarter, creator Kia Crawford aims to create a webcomic that shows the love story of Kate and Adam, their individual personalities, and their close friends. Just like any other couple, their lives are full of interesting and funny things. Refreshing to me is that in this story Adam is not transitioning; he’s past that part of his life so the story can focus on him and his relationship with Kate.
The majority of the funds from the Kickstarter will be used for paying to have the art created by Kelci Crawford with the rest going to backer rewards and unexpected costs. According to their Kickstarter pitch, “after writing and planning the first story arc, it came out to 42 pages. The goal is to update twice a week that means we could run the comic for 21 weeks.”
Backer rewards start at the $1 level for an Awesome People thanks on their website up to the $100 level where you could be a recurring character in the webcomic. Sadly, this was a limited award and spots have been filled, but being a background character at the $45 level is still available.
With only a few days left to go, Seeing Him is at 20% of their $3,000 goal. Compared to many other campaigns it’s a relatively small goal. On a project like this, every backer counts. If you need a last minute holiday gift, check this one out and help encourage more diverse comics at the same time.
