To All The Cons We’ve Loved This Year

November 30, 2018

We all have different criteria for what makes a convention. Some people love the huge rush of large venues like SDCC. Some like quieter, smaller things. With 2018’s convention season having finally wound down, we figured it’d be a good idea to talk about which con each of us liked ...

A Fistful of Comics: Crowdfunding Roundup, November ’18

November 12, 2018

When this posts, we in the U.S. will have just gone through the 2018 midterm elections and things will either be looking brighter or, well, not. Regardless of the results, it’s been a deeply exhausting month, season, and year, and if you’re like me you’ll definitely be needing some ...

That Box We Sit On Review

October 3, 2018

That Box We Sit On Richie Pope (Art &Words) I came across Richie Pope’s Ignatz-winning comic That Box We Sit On while I was moseying through the Comics Twitterverse. A story about two black kids hanging out, sitting on the same box my siblings and I would sit on when we didn’t want to play, ...

2017 Ignatz Awards Celebrate Diversity and Community

September 18, 2017

This year’s Ignatz Awards felt more charged than recent years, and the current political climate felt immediate and present even in the ballroom of the Bethesda Marriott where the ceremony is traditionally held. This wider perspective led to an evening of intensely personal speeches about ...

To All the Cons We Loved This Year

November 18, 2016

I went to a lot of cons this year. So many cons. I attended SDCC for the first time, flew to New York for the second year of FlameCon, did some shopping at TCAF, some press and panels at FanExpo, and covered several of Toronto’s hundred-odd film festivals. I’m not a fan of cons, ...
