Well, it’s February 21st, and in the good ol’ US of A it’s Presidents’ Day, which means some of us (myself included) have the day off, and I will be spending it catching up on everything I haven’t done for all of February.

So, a quick update on the Kickstarter moving to crypto thing.

Kickstarter is trying to crawl out of the PR nightmare that is its crypto announcement with a couple of articles and interviews. This one by Polygon is pretty standard fare. This interview on Comics Beat with Kickstarter COO Sean Leow is more specific on certain technical and philosophical details but the end result is that they are moving forward with crypto, whether people like it or not, so the great Kickstarter migration is still happening.

C. Spike Trotman was mentioned in the Beat interview, so if you’d like to read more about why she and Kickstarter are never ever ever getting back together, this interview on Forbes is good stuff.

But all anyone can talk about this week, and for good reason, is the Amazon Comixology shitshow. Because it is a shitshow and PATTON OSWALT HAS GOTTEN INVOLVED.

There will be a lot more pieces upcoming (including one from WWAC) about the horror that is Comixology right now. I have seen many, many tweets about the technical and usability issues for existing customers, and especially for international users, and I just have to say…wow. How do you fuck up this badly? I was reminded that Amazon began fucking up Comixology back in 2014, and people noticed. But like many things in this post-Trump, post-pandemic age, 2014 seems so long ago, and our complaints seem so minor in comparison.

But just when you’ve given up on comics, sometimes there’s a moment of joy. And sometimes where that moment of joy comes from surprises you. Like when Archie Comics posts this tweet.

Apparently this was one last farewell tweet by outgoing Archie-Employee-With-Social-Media-Account-Posting-Privileges Ron Cacace, who I did not know before, but who I hope is as delightful as that tweet.
