Anyone reading Archie Comics: Judgement Day has been greeted by some pretty horrifying sights and onomatopoeia. Don’t ask what happened to the Blossom twins, and as for poor Reggie – well, whew!
Issue two is slated to have more of the same, and you’ll never guess who this obscure demon-hybrid used to be…
…if you guessed the flimflamming Scam Likely, then you’re 100 percent right! Heaven (or hell) (or Madam Satan) knows what happened to Scam, but it looks like he’s another blood-soaked victim of horror and circumstance – or is he?
“I actually feel bad for Scam Likely — every time you see him, he’s running in fear and/or being torn in half. I mean, I don’t know if he needs to be constantly screaming in terror but that’s what we did to him. Sorry
” said issue artist Megan Hutchinson.
“Before I ever wrote America’s Favorite Teenagers, I was a tremendous fan of Ron Cacace and Vin Lovallo’s work on BITE SIZED ARCHIE; it’s a pitch-perfect example of how to take the classic concept of Archie Comics and update it for online readers. So, when it came time to figure out which cameos we wanted to make happen in JUDGMENT DAY, including Scam Likely – a character who has his origins in BITE SIZED ARCHIE – was a no brainer,” said issue writer Aubrey Sitterson.
“When I first read that Scam was going to be one of the many unfortunate souls turned demon in ARCHIE COMICS: JUDGMENT DAY, I first thought what an honor it is to have a character Ron and I created appear in such a big event, and secondly, I thought how scary it must be for Scam to appear in such a big event. While this is not the first time we’ve seen Scam outside of our webcomic or even in a horror title for that matter, this is the first time we’ve seen Scam as a full-fledged demonic monstrosity, so that’s fun! All I know is that if I ever got a call from this version of Scam, I would definitely pick up the phone. I imagine I’d be his next meal if I didn’t,” said Vincent Lovello, artist for Bite Sized Archie.
“I was shopping in Target with my wife and son when I saw the email from Jesse requesting a quote for an article about Scam Likely. ‘That’s weird,’ I thought. ‘I haven’t done anything with Scam lately.’ As I read the email, I felt a shiver go down my spine and it was not because I was standing in the frozen food aisle. It was truly shocking to see Scam’s monstrous form as depicted by artist Megan Hutchinson. I never thought Mojo from the X-Men could be one-upped in such an unsettling manner but Aubrey and Megan seem to have accomplished that together. The only thing scarier than Scam is the $300 grocery bill I had to pay when we checked out.”
“I guess I’ll need to buy a copy of JUDGMENT DAY #2 when it hits comic shops on [INSERT DATE HERE]. That’s actually what I want it to say, don’t put the date in there, I expect this to be printed verbatim. Thanks. End of quote,” said Bite Sized Archie writer Ron Cacace.
Audiences will find out when Archie Comics: Judgement Day #2 hits the street on June 19.
