Neat, sweet, a groovy song, you’re invited, come along! Josie McCoy and her band of cat’s ear-hatted friends are turning sixty this year, and Archie Comics is celebrating with an exclusive all-Pussycat edition of Josie and her friend’s adventures.

The issue’s new story is called ROCK Cats, and apparently features the band putting a concert on in outer space.

“The cartoon Josie and the Pussycats in Outer Space was a must-see every Saturday morning for me. The theme song, three girls in leopard outfits rocking out, and then they got to travel and have adventures in space! SQUEE! Melody was always my fave–for me, a kindred spirit–and then there was Bleep, Melody’s pet alien . . . double SQUEE! So, when I was asked if I wanted to write and draw a Josie and the Pussycats adventure that had them on a rocket orbiting the earth . . . uuumm YEAH!” Holly G!, the issue’s writer, told us in an exclusive statement about the issue.
redheaded white teen Josie McCoy, red-haired black teen Valerie Brown and white blonde-haired teen Melody Valentine crouch together in a white space capsule. They all wear royal blue bodysuits and boots of varying colors- Josie in neon green, Valerie in hot pink, and Melody in purple. They wear multicolored hat ears and Josie is holding a stuffed animal. They also have leopard-print gloves on. Outside the capsule a magnificent space scene can be witnessed.
“I have a strict rule when talking about upcoming comics: NO SPOILERS! But it will be difficult cause I do wanna tell you EVERYTHING! Archie Comics Editor-in-Chief Mike Pellerito floated some ideas to include what’s happening here on real life Earth with rockets launched by SpaceX and Blue Origin. Since I’m a sci-fi space geek, I follow all the spacey news, so I knew just what he was talking about! I incorporated that into our story of the new space travel company Lodge/Cabot, launching their maiden flight featuring a live Josie and the Pussycats concert from orbit! Out of this world, right?! BUT . . . something goes wrong! EEP!
“So, per my prime directive of no spoilers, I will just add that most of my story was inspired by one of my favorite musicians and a true Starman, David Bowie. There might be a few visual clues in my variant cover, which will be exclusive to my online store in November!” Holly G! concluded.

Josie and the Pussycats Anniversary Spectacular #1 features art from Holly G! as well, and inks by Jim Amash. Glenn Whitmore provides color work, and Jack Morelli letters. Holly G!, as she said above, also provides the variant cover (seen in the middle of the page), which will be exclusive to her website. Standard cover art comes from Dan Parent with colors by Rosario “Tito” Peña.

Josie and the Pussycats Anniversary Spectacular #1 streets on November 8.
