Come hang ten with Betty and Veronica as we announce this brand-new upcoming one-shot from Archie Comics!
The summer’s getting closer every day, and that means that the Archie gang are going to head out and have some fun in the sun! We’re proud to announce that Betty and Veronica: Friends Forever: Beach Party #1 will not only include a good solid dose of summertime fun, it will introduce a brand-new character to the Archieverse and feature a brand new story.
That character is Casey (seen below), a basketball-playing mystery man who piques the gang’s interest during a house party.
Casey makes his first splash in “Babbi’s Riverdale Beach Party,” and yes, for those who can’t recall, “Babbi” is Riverdale for “Barbie.” It turns out Babbi has a movie opening this summer, too. Veronica is determined to celebrate the event with a huge beach party. Everything at the Lodge Beach House will be Babbi-themed, from the dress code to the beach house itself. Veronica promises the gang a surprise guest will attend – so when Casey turns up, everyone is intrigued by him!
“Casey is the biggest mystery in Riverdale–word on the street is that he’s tall and skilled at basketball, which makes Archie nervous! Plus, he’s gorgeous and turns all the girls’ heads… much like newcomer Cassie Cloud did as well! Casey’s got style, skill, and substance, and he’s sure to bring a lot of fun to Riverdale!” explained Jamie L. Rotante, who serves as Archie’s Senior Director of Editorial as well as a writer on this story.
“I have been a Barbie girl as far back as I can remember, so getting to do this summer ‘Babbi Beach Party’ cover and story was intoxicating! I poured every ounce of my Barbie beating heart into both! For the cover, I researched the upcoming movie’s costumes, reminisced through Barbie’s wardrobe throughout the years, then assigned the Archie characters their outfits! Ronnie is the mid beach Barbie, Katy Keene is classic Barbie, Betty is rollerblade Barbie, etc. It took two days to complete the cover and I had a ball!” said Holly G! who illustrates this new story.
“Babbi’s Riverdale Beach Party” sports writing by Jamie L. Rotante, pencils by Holly G!, inks by Jim Amash, and colors and letters by the ubiquitous Glenn Whitmore and Jack Morelli, respectively. It’s the only new story in the issue, but the volume will be loaded with other memorable Archie-based summer tales.
