Welcome to the Archie Comics Pubwatch for the month of October! I’m Lisa, reporting from a corner booth at Pop’s Chock’lit Shoppe, and here’s this month’s news! In this month’s Archie Comics Pubwatch, a Riverdale poster preview, new exclusive covers, and much more!
Riverdale preview poster released
Fans are definitely going to be waiting awhile for more Riverdale (The final season won’t begin airing until next year, and there has been no concrete date set for the final season), but this eerie poster presages what’s on tap for Season 7. For those who didn’t catch the Season 6 finale, Cheryl Blossom’s attempt at stopping the apocalypse resulted in the gang being zapped back into the 1950s (specifically the day after James Dean died). They all act like their classic-universe selves — except for Jughead, who remembers everything about his modern life. Thus the eerie nature of the above poster, which feels very American Horror Story.

We’ve got a lot of Halloween books out this month, and this is my absolute favorite among the latest batch of Archie Horror books. A much more lighthearted take on the genre, this kiddie horror book meant for tweens features younger versions of Archie and co telling creepy fireside stories. Can Archie, Veronica, Betty and Jughead make it to the morning without scaring each other ? Are what they’re facing down too scary to be believed? Great art, a fun plotline and a sense of humor make this one my top pick and the month’s can’t-miss issue.

When it comes to main-line thrills, I have to go with this B&V issue, which features more of Sabrina tangling with her new mortal enemy, Amber Nightstone. Sabrina’s pretty sure she vanquished her new foe last month — so why does she have a sneaking suspicion that Amber’s out to get her this Halloween? Even though she’s on her guard and ready to defend her place, that doesn’t mean safety’s guaranteed.
Chilling Adventures of Salem #1
Cullen Bunn (Writing); Francesco Francavilla (Cover Variant); Matt Herms (Colors and Cover); Jack Morelli (Letters); Dan Schoening (Art and Cover)
October 12, 2022
This dark one-shot is all Salem, all the time. Sabrina’s kitty familiar strikes out on his own on a quest to protect strays in this spin-off of the CAOS universe. While it’s very intense and very well done, this one carries a warning with it, though, for major incidents of animal abuse and animal death, including depictions of dead animals, all of which occur on page.
