Expect Hunger Games movie prequels, says Lionsgate Vice Chair, missing the point completely

I don’t know about you, but another set of movies about kids killing each other for absolutely no good reason isn’t something I look forward to, or want to expect. And yet, Michael Burns (Vice Chairman of Lionsgate Studios) says that we can do exactly that, as the studio is reportedly planning prequels to the series. Burns cites kids talking about how “there were no arenas,” and that this is apparently a need that must be addressed in the form of movies about the Games before Katniss’s Reaping.

We Need Diverse Books called out for appropriating Hanukkah for fundraising

Hanukkah began on Sunday night, and a tweet tying the Jewish holiday to current fundraising efforts went out from the organization on Monday evening:

The tweet has since been deleted, but not before several Jewish bloggers and writers pointed out the inappropriateness of using a Jewish holiday to ask for donations. Others have called out WNDB for the lack of focus on Jewish people in literature.

Margaret Atwood announces graphic novel series, breaks book Twitter for the afternoon

Angel Catbird won’t be out until 2016, but excitement on social media is building for Atwood’s first comic series. She will write the script, and the art will be done by Johnnie Christmas, with the first of three volumes coming out in the fall. Atwood hopes to bring more attention to Keep Cats Safe and Save Bird Lives, a Canadian conservation charity.

Ethiopian saint Walatta Petros was known for her work against the Jesuits’ effort to convert Ethiopian Christians. in the country, and her life story was written by her followers thirty years after her death, in the Gəˁəz language. Princeton University Press has published the biography as The Life and Struggles of Our Mother Walatta Petros, as translated by Wendy Laura Belcher.
