Women Sweep 2015 Ignatz Awards

ignatz and krazy kat by Author: George Herriman

The Ignatz Awards winners were announced last night (see an explanation and the nominees list here), and in an unprecedented result, a woman won every single category, with some even picking up more than one award.  But lest these results tempt us to view indie comics as a kind of feminist utopia, let us be reminded of the problematic economics and troubling ideology that often goes hand in hand with the “indie” label–and let us be think on that tomorrow.
