The DC Daily Planet: Aquaman Looks Great, World is Confused

My First Book of Girl Power Julie Merberg DC Comics Downtown Bookworks 2014 2

Happy Friday! Today’s DC Daily Planet is brought to you by Jason Momoa’s killer ink, trident, and a smolder Flynn Rider would envy. Yes, it’s true. DC’s done the impossible, crusaders: they’ve made Aquaman sexy.

Zack Snyder tweeted the first image of Momoa as Aquaman at just about 1AM this morning, and it’s so cool, he gets not one, but two taglines:

Guys, I…I’m interested. In Aquaman. Someone take my hand and help me through this very confusing time.

I do want to point out, however, that thus far I have seen no real complaints about the lack of Aquaman’s classic costume, or the grayscale of the photo — not the case when we got our first photos of Diana’s costume. Hmm.

More (but less exciting) casting news: Friday Night Light‘s Jay Hernandez is joining the Suicide Squad movie, possibly as a cellmate to Jared Leto’s Joker. Okay. Can’t we just get ride of Leto, instead? No news on who’ll be replacing Tom Hardy as Rick Flag in the same production, although Will Smith has said “[they] still have to get it right.”

That is, traditionally, better than getting it wrong, yes! Thanks, Will Smith.

Toy Fair 2015 happened, and DC debuted a number of new statues: most interestingly, they were largely of female characters. The Bombshells and Cover Girls line particularly added a few more to their number, and new statues of Batgirl and Harley Quinn were popular. My takeaway? I want to go to a Toy Fair.

How’s your week been, crusaders? Let me know in the comments.
