strange days, http://ia.media-imdb.com/images/M/MV5BMTQxMzk0NTQ4Ml5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTgwNjY0MDQ1MDE@._V1_SX214_AL_.jpgStrange Days was a box office flop. An underrated, unusual, suspenseful flop starring Ralph Fiennes, Angela Bassett, Juliette Lewis, and Tom Sizemore. And it is our next pick for the Classic Nerd Movie Club.

The story takes place in Los Angeles in the year 1999, and Lenny Nero (Fiennes) is a black market dealer that was at one time an LAPD officer. He now mainly deals in S.Q.U.I.D. recordings — recordings of peoples’ memories and sensations. The experiences are pulled from recorders’ minds by wearing some high tech gadgetry connected to the cerebral cortex which are then transferred to a tiny disc. Users can pop the disc into their own high tech gadgetry and can hear the sounds, see the sights, and feel the feels of the actual experiences.

Can you imagine the possibilities? You could live through someone’s first kiss, learning to walk, giving birth, even dying. But there is also the dark side, where you could experience someone picking fights, stealing, even killing. Lenny Nero is given a S.Q.U.I.D. version of a snuff film and must work to find the killer before he-or-she strikes again.

We’re talking about an all-star cast and a cool-ass premise here. Join us for the livetweet on Wednesday, August 27th at 8 pm EST while we snark/enjoy the movie. Strange Days is available for streaming on both Netflix and Amazon Prime. By the way, Kathryn Bigelow was the first woman to win the Saturn Award for Best Director for this flick!
