Hello dear readers! Angel here with your newest bits of manga news to start the weekend!
The live-action film adaptation of hit manga Fullmetal Alchemist announced its cast on Monday, led by Hey! Say! JUMP’s Ryosuke Yamada as Edward Elric (who you may recognize from the live-action film version of Assassination Classroom. Joining him are Dean Fujioka (playing Roy Mustang), and Yasuko Matsuyuki (playing Lust).
While I haven’t watched the anime or read the manga myself–I know, I know, it’s on my list–I admit I’m excited to see how this turns out. Yamada was pretty decent in Assassination Classroom, and Dean Fujioka is one of those actors who can convince me to at least try a project out. The film will be released in Japanese cinemas in 2017
Speaking of new projects, mangaka Yoshitoki Oima will be launching a new fantasy manga this fall. Fans of Oima’s previous series A Silent Voice were given a sneak peek of the new series in Kodansha’s Weekly Shounen Magazine this week, with an image from the manga and a rather intriguing tagline:
“The knowing look, that passes through his eyes and tells of the world’s kindness and severity, will wrench your heart.”
Finally, the new cast of this year’s Sailor Moon musical, or Sera Myu, was introduced this week! Hotaru Nomoto leads the cast as Usagi Tsukino/Sailor Moon, with Hikari Kuroki, Karen Kobayashi, Kaede, and Rimo Hasegawa rounding out the sailor senshi.

The girls look lovely and engaging, and as a Sera Myu fan, I’m definitely looking forward to seeing how they take on these classic roles.
